Cuckoo Healey Nab

Heard the Cuckoo whilst mountain biking around Healey Nab too.

It still makes me smile when we free-wheel past Grasshopper Warblers and they "talk" back to the clicking of the wheel mechanism lol!!

I found a skeleton of a smallish bird on the fells that turned out to be a 13 year old Snipe ringed in Wales!

Short Eared Owl - Grindleton Fell 30th June 2010

Whilst out MTB tonight around Grindleton Fell we came across a SE Owl and a Buzzard in combat over the fellside.
Kestrel and Sparrowhawk were hunting too.
There were the usual common upland species as well :-)

Nice one, its hard work trying to ID wildlife AND watch the track ahead lol!

Mind you, we do see allsorts of things when MTB at night between Sept & April..... lots of owl activity especially :wink:

Great Hill to Healey Nab Weds 16th June

Whilst out MTB (mountain biking) last night, we came across all sorts of common upland birds including; Grasshopper Warbler reeling at Drinkwaters and a Tree Pipit displaying at Healey Nab.

I've seen SEO several times around Darwen Moor whilst mountain biking AND walking ;-) I've also seen them south of Turton Moor where they nested last year. Darwen Moor - 9th June- Short Eared Owl

Whilst out mountain biking tonight around Darwen Moor and then on to Turton Moor, we spotted a Short Eared Owl hunting.
Even one of our group, Psye (Simon) was impressed!
