Anglesey

Most of last week was spent still recovering from a recent op, however a house overlooking the sea near Moelfre on Anglesey meant lots of chilled seawatching. Weather was mainly good apart from a storm that came through Monday morning - Manxies passed at 50+ a minute, with numerous Gannet, Fulmar an...

Garden Moths - Gillibrand north

The recent good run of new for the garden continued yesterday night - a pair of Canary-shouldered Thorn and a Golden-rod Pug were stand out - the pug confirmed with UKMoths. New for the year were Dun-bar, Straw Dot, and Crescent. In amongst 30+ Large Yellow Underwing (some kept moving or flying off)...

Re: Silverdale butterfly

Cracking picture. Struggle to remember when I've seen a Brimstone perched - usually just flutter by and disappear.

Garden Moths - Gillibrand north

Quality rather than quantity (apart from the Large Yellow Underwing that is). New for the garden - Cabbage, Mouse Moth, Chequered Fruit-tree Tortrix and Apple/Orchard Ermine.
Also - Scalloped Oak, Shuttle-shaped Dart, Willow Beauty.

Sollom canal

Disappointing search for Odonata with just 4 Common Darter, 2 Emperor, and singles of Brown Hawker, Blue-tailed Damselfly and Banded Demoiselle - was hoping for Small Red-eyed Damselfly after a recent sighting in Rufford. 3 Wall Brown and a single Brimstone were the best of the butterflies, with Ree...

Re: Arnside Knott and No.50

Cheers Neville. I did well to find it after an hour's searching as it never flew. Stayed on the same flower for a long time allowing others to see it.

Arnside Knott and No.50

Highlight this morning was point-blank views of nectaring Brown Hairstreak near the trig-point on Arnside Knott. My 50th of the 60 regular breeding UK butterflies. Plenty of Scotch Argus being typically flighty and hard to pin down. Ringlet, Common and Holly Blue, Large, Small and GV White, Small Sk...

Yarrow Meadows and garden moths

The search continues, but all Skipper's were Small. Couple of Small Copper today, one on the meadows and one by the farm. Lots of butterflies to search through again, with Southern, Migrant and Brown Hawker as well. Highlight of this week's mothing was a nfg Dotted Clay in amongst many dozens and do...
