The garden moth trap was full to brimming this morning... but mainly of one species. 66 Large Yellow Underwing crammed in to every nook and cranny! Hobby loitered around this evening over the meadows, with a brief sortie over Gillibrands north after the House Martin's. Always great to watch in hunting mode.

Great day out with Simon in South Cumbria. Visited Howe Ridding and Brigsteer Woods for Butterflies, and Foulshaw and Meathop Mosses for Dragonflies. 20 species of the former, and 12 of the latter. New patch Odonata tick this evening near the south small pond - male Black Tailed Skimmer. Plenty of Gatekeeper, Small Tortoiseshell and Small Skipper scattered across the meadows. Dipper and Grey Wagtail on the river, Buzzard and Sparrowhawk over Parker's Wood.

Other things to add today were Brown Hawker and Common Darter by the river, 3 Comma and 4+ each of Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell, Small Skipper and Gatekeeper on the Meadow.
Family of Mallard on the river, 5 ducklings including one all yellow one. Thought it was a rubber duck at first!

Bumped into the Mandarin family on the river, first time for a few weeks. 5 almost fully grown youngsters. Quiet overall with just the horseflies for company! Small and Large White, Meadow Brown, Peacock, and a couple of Shaded Broad-bar moths.
