Had a Chiff Chaff in the garden on and off since Christmas - this morning in the sunshine it was actually attempting a bit of a song! Spring is on its way!

House Martins
Late fledging on 1st October of 3 House Martins near Harbour Lane, Heapey - 2nd brood - first fledged in late August. Hope they migrate successfully!

New garden bird!
Heard strange but vaguely familiar call coming from back garden. In top of oak tree a Ringed-necked Parakeet - call very similar to Australian variety! Looked very out of place, stayed around the surrounding gardens for most of afternoon - last seen flying off towards hospital.

Given the concerns re. the huge drop in Hedgehog numbers in recent years I have to say that this year I've seen more Hedgehogs than in the last few years. BTO confirm 90% drop in Siskins this year - comparatively mild weather has meant little or restricted movement from breeding grounds - shame - missed the little souls on my bird table!

Lapwing numbers continue to increase - 137 on there this morning plus 230+ Starlings, 36 BH Gulls, 17 Jackdaws - oh - and a pair of Bullfinches in adjoining hedge.

Passing L R Rivington Reservoir this afternoon - looked over wall to gaze into the fog! However in the mist were 20 +/- Grey Lags - may have been more or less but very foggy- also 20+ Mallard, 60+ BH Gulls
