Not very exciting but approx 300 on Eaves Lane in a flock around St Peter's club - a good number for the area.

Driving slowly towards it and stopping about 10 feet away, the dark shape turned out to be a Snipe - up to its breast in snow. It l...

Weasel v Cat

Sadly, our cat is a killer! - she is small, slender, loving - and lightening quick! In addition to the usual odd small, bird (apologies now!) and mice, voles, shrews and rats - she prefers more robust prey. Countless rabbits, moles, grey squirrels and larger birds, eg Woodpigeons and Black Headed Gul...

Hobby and Peregrines

Thursday 3 August, St John's Church, Preston Road, Whittle. Heard a huge commotion and looked up to see a couple of Peregrines wheeling around and noticed the object of their disquiet - a male Hobby chasing House Martins. The Peregrines tried their level best to disturb the Hobby but it totally outc...

Re: Could the Chorley district be holding Nightjars ?

Think it is getting a bit late for Nightjars churring with any enthusiasm - but good luck. Historically myself and Ken Green used to go to Chat Moss in the 1970s to watch and listen to Nightjars. Strangely trains along the railway line often brought on the churring! We diligently search all suitable...

Red Kites, Buzzard and R N Parakeets!

Just a brief record or two. Red Kite over M61 near Crosse Hall Lane 1 June. Then another one sailing around over Withnell Fold for quite a while 13 June. Then in our garden a Buzzard at top of our tree being mobbed by Jays on 19 June. Finally we have the odd RN Parakeet around most days but tonight ...
