Re: Out and about .
Hi Gary
Was it definitely a Woodpigeon in the water? There was a Mallard last week dead. I have encountered the group of lads with air rifles again recently and wondering then if I need to report it again, after issues with them last year.
Cheers

Re: Lower Rivington & White Coppice
Hi Len
Have you changed any of the settings on the photos? Everything seems darker? Back of adult bird is same shade as Common Gull and head is flat topped. If that the case then fine for YL Gull. Juv bird very difficult due to colours. Looks more like young LBB Gull.

Hordern Stoops - Winter Hill - Rivington Pike and back
Quality rather than quantity this morning. Raven (70) on the climb up. Nothing at all around the masts. A squelch across the moor produced both Snipe (71) and Jack Snipe (72) flushed. A Chiffchaff (73) with the tit flock near the Pigeon Tower was a surprise. Finally, Crossbill (74) and Siskin (75) i...

Re: Lower Rivington roost
Just missed you, I left at 3.30 but was viewing from the main road. That's a significant build up from when I left. I was surprised how pale headed some of the Herring Gull's were, certainly comparing to this time last winter. Wonder if the mild weather has got some of them moulting sooner than norm...

Lower Rivington roost
Small roost this afternoon, only just over a thousand birds. 50:50 split between Black-headed and Common mainly. Of interest as well: 1 Ad Yellow-legged Gull. See photos (overexposed I'm afraid but they give the idea :-)). Very clean individual with classic head shape and bill, grey of the back simi...

Re: Common Bank Lodge and surrounds
Thanks for the update Neville. This morning the lodge seemed a little clearer - maybe last night's breeze? All 4 Little Grebes feeding actively this morning. 3 Cormorant, 54 Mallard, 3 Coot and 7 Moorhen as well. Quite a few hundred gulls flying over (south). 50:50 split between Herring and Black He...

Common Bank Lodge and surrounds
Quiet overall this afternoon. Bit worried about the increasing amount of gunk covering the lodge. No sign of any Little Grebe, just 5 Moorhen and 2 Coot. A flock of 150+ Redwing in the trees by the river. Common Buzzard also. Grey Wagtail in back garden again.
