Ian did you notice if the wilti you saw was ringed or not several birds have been ringed in an area just east of kem mill lodge over the last couple of years

Yuletide ringing session

Yesterday's session ringing at the feeding station was quite successful 33birds caught in two hours mostly titmice inc 5 Lotti's no wilti though also nutha f great spot. Chafi. Out and about locally early am 7ravens leaving a roost cuerden valley 12 goosander and 17 cormorants on lake. Topped up feeders at ringing station ready for tomorrow's ringing session (weather permitting) spent an hour sat quiet watching feeders. Many mixed titmice inc Lotti's and single wilti also ...

Numbers of jackdaws at cuerden fluctuate year on year but on average 2000 are in the roost during late autumn early winter

There is a substantial corvid roost every year in cuerden

mostly jackdaws but good numbers of carrion crow and rooks as well. Also over the last 3 years a late winter raven roost separate from the mixed corvids

2nd record 1st record sandy lane adlington early morning 26th August till the late evening of the 27th when it left the site. Cracking bird though. Just checked my old motheaten notebooks. From back then .

Information on shelduck has been gathered over a number of years through ringing and colour ringing many shelduck congregation around the Heligoland peninsula to moult before returning to the UK. One of my favorite wildfowl to ring. Cracking birds in the hand

new record for the garden today and to say its a surprise is a massive understatement. first heard singing in the woods at the rear of the garden then later seen on fat slice and then on bird table feeding on mealworms. cracking garden warbler. takes the garden in over and through list to 64 species

two juv blackbirds in the garden on 30th of april being fed dried mealworms by the male of the pair. yesterday 2nd may both juvs were ringed after being caught in one of the gardens potter traps 5 sheppies allso ringed over last two days.

Early am today 06.00 reeling gropper in juncas field on side of hill next to clayton hall landfill site. Allso pair of stock doves in field at rear of ice house wood. Allso single oystercatcher at waters edge cuerden lake and male shelduck sue ryder scrape.

Highlight early this morning was a single common sandpiper feeding along the lakeside edge at 06.40. A good fall of warblers over night with at least 5 blackcap seen close together near wooden bridge in the valley. Local blackcaps are allready pairing up and prospecting nestsites. Arley nr early am singing whitethroat allso blackcap and chiffchaff in song. Song thrush blackbird robin all on eggs. And two female mandarin on eggs in nestboxes on the reserve this morning mixed wagtails 5 pied and single white on manure heap just outside our area .
