Re: Around Rivington

Unfortunately, it is a fine crop of Honey Fungus, which is probably why the tree died and had to be cut down!

Re: Mooch around Upper Rivington + Anglezarke Reservoir

Although there are no white flecks remaining on the cap, from the ring on the stem, etc img 007 and 019 look like Fly Agarics. Sorry can't ID the other species from that photo - more details needed of other characteristics, eg gills under cap, stem, habitat/trees associated with fungus, etc.

Re: Fungal Foray

The fungal foray I led for Chorley U3A this morning in Chorley Cemetery was a useful 'reccy' for the society's foray on Sunday, 11th October. There were more fungi than I found a week ago so looks promising for Sunday - certainly enough variety of species, including some of the cemetery's specialiti...

Re: Humming Bird Hawk moths

I too had a Humming-bird Hawk-moth as well as a Silver-Y moth and butterflies on Verbena bonariensis this afternoon. Butterflies included 3 Red Admirals, 3 Speckled Woods, 1 Small Tortoiseshell, 1 Comma and 1 Painted Lady that is now looking very tatty! Butterflies were on golden Buddleia and Sedum ...

Chorley Cemetery

Having had 'my arm twisted' to lead a fungal foray for the society on UK FUNGUS DAY, Sunday, 11th October, I did a preliminary 'reccy' in Chorley Cemetery this afternoon. Not many fungi at the moment - probably been too dry recently but there were some just appearing and hopefully more will have gro...

I too am a member and have some discount vouchers. I agree that Gary's suggestion of a society evening visit is a good idea.

Garden sightings

Were the 6+ Long-tailed Tits that passed through my garden today a sign that winter will soon be here? In the meantime, butterflies still enjoying the nectar-rich plants in the sunshine included 5 Red Admirals, 1 Small Tortoiseshell, 2 Speckled Woods, 2+ Small Whites and a Painted Lady - first sight...

Re: Garden Butterflies

Butterflies in my garden today were a welcome sight after returning home yesterday evening from a short holiday in a mainly cloudy and wet Suffolk where only butterflies seen were few unidentified 'whites'. On the Michaelmas Daisies and late-flowering golden Buddleias today were 4 Red Admirals, 2 Co...
