Bullfinches back

Delighted to see a pair of Bullfinches have started coming to my garden bird feeders again as the weather has turned colder. But not delighted about the weather and also disappointed that no Goldfinches seen in my garden yet this autumn.

Re: Chorley Cemetery 13:00 to 13:30

I went to look for fungi in the cemetery around noon today, mainly to see Herald of Winter as the society's only previous record of this species in the Chorley area was from Duxbury Woods way back in 1988. Thanks to Len's directions I was delighted to find several of this species and most of the oth...

Re: Cemetery fungi

Neil - the fungi you saw were probably Yellow Field cap, Bolbitius vitellinus .

I forgot to mention that I also saw a Snowy Wax cap in the cemetery. I must go to look at the cricket field at White Coppice soon. Has anyone seen Waxcaps there this autumn?

Re: Chorley Cemetery

Having been into the cemetery this afternoon (4th November) to look at fungi, as well as the usual/common Brown Rollrim (Paxillus involutus) I also found the distinctly different Rollrim, Paxillus obscurosporus which Len had recently photographed and mentioned to me that he had found in the cemetery...

Last local butterfly?

Just 1 Red Admiral in my garden late morning in sunshine (there were 2 on Thursday, 22nd October). Can anyone beat me to seeing the last local butterfly? I have rarely seen butterflies in November (last time was 2011) but there are still a few flowers in my garden including Michaelmas Daisies to wel...
