After all the rain the hides at Leighton Moss were only accessible with wellies, except Lillian's.The Eric Morecambe hide suffered the same fate and the flooding meant few birds to be seen. Jack, I live in the countryside and I guess the bramblings follow the chaffinches. But no siskin for me - yet ! Plenty of redwing in the field out at the back , but no fieldfare so far. The birds should eventually learn about your feeding station. Can you not attach your camera to your binoculars or...

Winter Thrushes.

Jack, forget about Scandinavia, try hilly farmland to the east of the A6 -Whittle, Wheelton, Brindle and Heapey towards the moors. After seeing your posting I went off to Houghton Bottoms and found some redwing with a flock of starling near Brindle, but no fieldfares.

Sparrowhawk Kill ?

Dead BH Gull in the garden this morning; presumably the victim of a SH but only mantle feathers removed - see Gallery. Also both bullfinch and brambling (possibly two) returned today.

Brambling back in the garden 20th & 24th Dec . Bullfinch 22nd & 23rd -what sex ? - see Gallery. Also a couple of redwing in the field at the back of our garden. One brown blackbird with a ring on !
