Large Female Adder - Sunday 29th June 2014

Whilst up in the Bowland we were very lucky to come across this large female adder basking in the morning sun. A further search of the area revealed a sloughed skin 96 meters away. This looks like it may be from a female too. On a side note, what are the two specimens of fauna included in the album?...

White Coppice Wed 11th June 2014

Had two hours at White Coppice. 2pm- 4pm Cuckoo calling even though a fellow birdwatcher there told me that I was three weeks too late! Buzzard hovering over the fell edge caught what appeared to be a small rodent and dismembered it whilst in the hover position. All the usual birds were present incl...

White Coppice - Little Egret - Monday 14th May 2012

Had a look at White Coppice this morning. Two sightings of peregrine, the last seeing it set off on a mission! Plenty of buzzard, raven with most of the usual population showing up. Nuthatch busy feeding young. Didn't see dipper, green woodpecker or cuckoo! However, great views of a little egret cir...

Anyone using these in the feeders? Where I live, house sparrows and starlings are as rare as hens teeth! Low and behold, 5 starlings on the feeder and a couple of house sparrows in the garden. They emptied the feeder in a matter of hours!!! Bought some 'emergency' supplies from a local shop £4.49 fo...

GS Woodpeckers

Strange, I only commented the other day that we didn't hear a GSW in an area where we normally hear them!
We did however hear a Nuthatch.

Overall, my feelings are that there "appears" to be less GSW activity.

There's GSW presence though here in Walton-le-Dale near the River Darwen area.

Whilst out mountain biking, we came across a calling Cuckoo and Green Woodpecker near to the avenue leading to the Barn.
Also Nuthatch, GS Woodpecker, Garden Warbler, Raven, Tree Creeper.

Didnt have any Grasshopper Warblers "singing" along with our free-wheeling bikes tonight! la!

A short foray out on the West Pennines resulted in a Barn Owl's nest with five egg's in the last place you'de expect! The raptor count was quite low with only a pair of Kestrel's showing! Plenty of Willow Warblers, Chiff Chaff, also a pair of Bullfinch, Nuthatch, GS Woodpecker, Whitethroat, Redstart...
