Oystercatchers

Two Oystercatchers flew over our house in Euxton calling loudly. They seemed to come from the west but veered off south as they approached.

Mason Bees

I have put up several "bee hotels" in the hope of getting more bees around the garden. Today I noiced dozens of these bees, which I am fairly sure are Red Mason Bees (Osmia rufa) - they are going in and out of gaps in my roof tiles - treating my roof as a giant bee hotel There's gratitude ...

Insects

Had a walk at White Coppice looking for Green Hairsteaks. Found 5. Also a couple of Peacock butterflies. Called at the pond near Burgh Hall where there were 15 Large Red Damselflies. Most looked freshly emerged. No Chasers yet. Male and Female Orange Tip were present. The female looked like she was ...

A short walk at Birkacre this morning produced a single Small Tortoiseshell and 2 Commas.

At home in the garden were a Small White and a Peacock.

Maybe the fox we saw near our house this morning is the cause of the lack of rabbits! We don't see many foxes at home, but have seen this one a couple of times in the last 2 months.

Another, even more unusual sighting was a Woodcock which I flushed from the bottom of the field next door yesterday.

Euxton Birds

A walk along the Yarrow this morning produced small parties of Long Tailed Tits plus a few Wrens Nuthatches and Great Tits. male Grey Wagtail, 2 Buzzards and a flock of maybe 1000 Starlings (just west of Armetriding).
