Yes it is more stable. I guess those that lost their nests will hopefully build again close by.

3 colonies of Sand Martins; total c150 birds at Hoghton Bottoms.

Little Egret, Heron, Kingfisher, 4 Dipper at Hoghton Bottoms.

5 Curlew, 4 Oystercatcher in fields behind the Royal Oak at Riley Green.

Hoghton Housemartins

About 20 Housemartins feeding above the River Darwen at Hoghton Bottoms, Valley Rd end, spotted during our river clean this morning.

We had over 30 at the river clean (fantastic community spirit) and we filled a large skip.

There are Water Vole about 100m up from the houses across the old Boat Yard Pub (soon to become offices) on the Withnell Fold side.

The Sand Martin colony seems to have substantially increased given the number of burrows. About 60/70 birds overhead at 09:00
