Healey Nab 28 Apr 08

Grasshopper Warblers in exactly the same spot as last week, just 50 yards up the track from Cliffs Farm. Usual garden birds. Pipits. Larks. Linnet (pair). Hare. Also from Pilkys Pile, I have heard rumours that you can apparently see Snaefell from here, if the conditions are right. I've never seen it...

Several Willow Warbler. Pretty certain I saw a Redstart alone atop a fir - at first I thought it was a stonechat...

Yarrow Valley Park request

River Yarrow - between Drybones and Duxbury - here : http://tinyurl.com/2lphvv A huge plastic bag full of small polystyrene "figure of eights" has been dumped in the river here  It's only just started leaking out, but over the next few days it will empty and foul up the river complet...

Lead Mines Clough 31/03/08

7-8pm, usual garden birds, still no grey wagtail in Limestone Brook (they used to always be there!). 11 curlew and 5 hares. Larks, pipits. A lamb woke up as I passed it, and it thought I was its mum - it followed me bleating for a couple of minutes or so!

Didn't look like a Muscovy but was probably a "farm duck" of some sort. It certainly wasn't the Bufflehead, anyway :) Seemed to have an Aylesbury duck's head, and a pied body. The Goosander was on Yarrow Reservoir. The Goldeneye was at the start of the path to Lead Mines Clough - probably ...

Bits

Checking out footpaths today, saw a few bits and pieces - Goldcrest near Clayton Quarry. 20+ lapwing on the River Darwen just N of Hoghton Gorge. 2 Oystercatcher in Heapey near the Trig. Grey Wagtail on brook in Plock Wood. Loads of blackbirds kicking off, not much more though, certainly no larks, c...
