Brinscall to Darwen tower

A couple of new birds along withnell nature reserve, song thrush near first bridge and grey wagtail near second bridge. yesterday morning, gs woodpecker, chaffinch, bullfinch, redpoll, blackbird, wren, robin, great tit, blue tit, coal tit, crow, jackdaw, collard dove, magpie and wood pigeon.

1 male and 2 female pochard on high Bullough on Monday afternoon (12.30pm) also black darter on the moor road from lead mines to great hill. 3 wheatear still on moor road from great hill to the top of well lane this morning. (is this late for this species)?

Lead mine clough

Male redstart this afternoon, quite near last years nest site. Other birds, curlew, redpoll, willow warbler, coal, great, blue and long tailed tit, robin, chaffinch. Also saw a lizard up there on Saturday.

Great hill

Walk up to the top today, not much about Linnet, meadow pipit and a distant kestrel on the way up, then right at the top a female or juv wheatear, actually sat on the stone cross wall at the top, a couple of ravens and a group of crows and magpies on the way down. Still very dry up there.

went in the hope of redstart, but no luck. did have a reeling grasshopper warbler in the area between the ruin and Belmont road. otherwise just common species. does anybody know why slipper lowe car park has been closed for the last few months?

White coppice to great hill

female wheatear on the way up to great hill yesterday morning, plenty of skylarks and meadow pipits, heard a distant curlew but no sign of any grouse. also quite a few butterfly's about, but wouldn't stay still long enough for id.
