Garden birds

More young House Sparrows. At least 6 being fed by adults. Appears to be a good year for them this year. Also another good number of Juvenile Starlings on the feeders with woodpigeons with one Juvenile, Jackdaws, goldfinch, Blue and Great tits. Also had a Holly Blue Butterfly in the garden last week.

Forgot to mention two Kingfishers, One on Big Lodge and one on Top Lodge. Also heard Reed Warbler.

Yarrow Valley Park

Great Crested Grebes with three young. Pair of Grey Wagtails going into nest to feed young. Mute Swans with cygnets doing well and a Mandarin with one young on the river was nice to see, plus all the usuals. a pair of Buzzards circling over Euxton lane this afternoon.

Marshside

Counted at least 27 Goslings with three adult pairs on the Golf course at Marshside today.

Could anyone give me an id on this Mouse/vole please. It was very small and plump. nice to see lots of Swifts, Swallows, sand Martins and house Martins feeding in the rain.

On and around the Lodge today. Much the same as Ian. The two young Little Grebes doing well. 1 Jay. 1 Reed Bunting. Goldfinch and lots of Mayflies fluttering about. Some very large fish basking close to the edge of the water was nice to see.

Martin Mere

A Spotted flycatcher showed well from the Kingfisher hide this afternoon but only for a couple of minutes, managed to get a couple of shots before it disappeared. Lots of Shelduck with young around the Reserve. Didn't see any Raptors but a GS Woodpecker showed well from one of the hides.

After the rain the sun came out and so did the Butterflies. Interesting to watch a pair of Common blue Butterflies copulating today. Still lots of Common Blues and a few Small Whites, Green veined and Speckled Wood. Birds seen and heard. 2 Chiffchaffs. Blackbirds. 1 Songthrush. Goldfinch. Chaffinch....

My feeders at the moment are full of Starlings and House Sparrows, both Adult and young, and the hedgerows alongside Primrose fields, just across from were I live have lots of Sparrows in them and that's were the adult sparrows appear to be taking the seed, so maybe more young to come. White Coppice. Much the same as Paul but a White Crow showed well near no6 Res. a Kestrel was mobbing a Buzzard, While I was stood on the bridge over the Goit near the cricket field a Sparrowhawk flew from east to west along the Goit.
