Had a close encounter with a sparrowhawk on friday , i was climbing over a gate on the moss when a sparrowhawk flew straight at me , im convinced it would have landed on me if i had not moved ( inches away from my head ) it may have been a young bird .

Carr lane pool held 12 mallard , at least 3 kestrel , 2 buzzard , heard grey partridge , 5 swift passed over , lots of water about but still no waders , several tree sparrow , yellowhammer .

Flushed a short eared owl from a stubble field on mawdesley moss this morning ( still present at 9.30am ) it flew back into cover ( large carrot field ) last nights stormy weather may have forced the bird down , checked all the wet fields for waders and had no luck at all , 3 kestrel , 2 buzzard , 2...

Windy conditions this evening but managed a few good sightings , 2 mute swan on the river douglas , chiffchaff heard , 2 moorhen , small numbers of linnet and plenty of woodpigeon on the rape stubble , heard 1 yellowhammer , 25 lapwing , small flock of starling , 2 mistle thrush , 3 kestrel , 1 buzz...

Croston moss .

A quiet evening on the moss but ended up with a couple of interesting sightings the highlight was great views of a large juv fem peregrine which shot through in full hunting mode it totally overlooked 5 mallard on a flood but doubled back and had a half hearted stoop at a young hare ! the hare stood...

Croston twin lakes / sewage works area .

The oil seed rape has finally been harvested but the small field which crop failed has been left and at the moment is a wildlife haven with lots of wild flowers and small amounts of ripe oil seed rape butterflies were everywhere ( painted lady seen egg laying on nettles ) , 30+ linnet , 2 greenfinch...
