1st winter Glaucous Gull present this am until 07:50 when it flew West in the direction of Worthington Lakes / Rigby Landfill.

Also 2 Pochard and 1 Tufted Duck.

Reservoir mostly frozen, and the biggest roost of large gulls I've seen at Rivington, all stood on the ice.

Herring Gull: 2000+
GBBG: 120

3 adult Whooper Swans flew in at dusk and stayed on the water for nearly 30 minutes before heading off south.

41+ Teal
130+ GBB Gulls
1000+ Herring Gulls
8000+ BHGs
Still no white-wingers

14/12 and 16/12/08

Disappointingly no Glaucous Gull in the roost.
Other gull numbers much as last week, still c150 Great Black-backs.

Also 22 Teal, 70 Lapwings and a Stoat.

My first visit this winter, and quite a big gull roost with noticeably more birds than last year. Large gulls in particular were in much greater numbers.

Black-headed Gull: c8000
Herring Gull: 1300+
GBBG: 150+
Common Gull: 200+
LBBG: c20

Canada Goose: 47
Teal: 15
Great Crested Grebe: 5

1 adult male Hen Harrier flew East over Gale Brook Wood (SD692145) on the region boundary and headed over Dingle Reservoir towards Delph.

27 Lesser Redpoll by Dingle Reservoir.

2 Green Woodpeckers and lots of frog spawn near the ornamental pond at Belmont.

The size of the roost has increased a lot in the last couple of weeks.
Tonight:
Black-headed Gull: 6000+
Herring Gull: c400
GBBG: 30+
LBBG: c25
Common Gull: 300+

Also
2 Goosander.
1 drake Goldeneye.
Redwings have been roosting somewhere near the school.
