Lower Healey

I was hoping for a few Redwing and Fieldfare, but there's nothing in yet. Quiet on the lodges too with just Mallard c20, Tufted 3, Coot 4, Moorhen 2 and a few Black-headed Gulls. 2 singing Chiffchaff were the only other noteworthy sighting.

Re: Eyes Lane

All the Canada Geese bar one have left. The pair of Mute Swans has relocated to the field by the Yarrow and all the duck were hidden in the marshy area, where there seemed to be single figures of Wigeon, Pintail and Shoveler. 4 Coot were on the main water. Other than that it was mainly Lapwing c100 ...

Re: Species recorded in 2019

I didn't realise that I hadn't added Black Redstart, so it takes us to 156. 160 is now looking realistic for the year, but I'm not sure where they'll come from.

Withnell Fold

Dire is the only word to describe it. Although there's now plenty of water in the fields, there are no birds. Literally none. Whether this is because of deliberate disturbance, I don't know but it's unusual. Birds seen along the canal included Cormorant, Sparrowhawk and Kingfisher but no Buzzard. In...

Re: Eyes lane .

Never a dull moment down Eyes Lane! I was standing by the bridge scoping the floods when I heard two or three police sirens which I assumed were on the A59. But the sound got louder and louder so I turned round and looked down the lane towards Sollom and saw blue flashing lights approaching. It was ...

Surprisingly not much more water in the flashes. No Teal yet and no Lapwings or gulls, just a single Snipe in the reeds. A Kestrel and a Grey Wagtail along the canal were just about the only other birds of note.

The three main reservoirs are full of water but devoid of birds. Just 2 Cormorant seen flying up Upper Rivington.

Called at Heapey No. 3 which did at least produce 8 Mallard, 4 Tufted, 4 Moorhen and 3 Black-headed Gulls.
