Only saw one adult and one juvenile Little Grebe. The others must have been hiding. The new pair of swans has finally hatched a single chick. They still seem to be incubating the other egg so maybe there will be two. Common Scottish dialect for cuckoo, David. It also means idiot or simpleton, which is a bit unfair on cuckoos because they must be fairly smart to get others to do all their child-rearing!

It seems that's the first record of the year for Martin Mere of Spotted Flycatcher, Peter. Interesting that they're still arriving. Maybe it was on its way inland to the Chorley area!

On Top Lodge, the mute swan family was hidden in the reeds, from which 2 Reed Warblers and a Reed Bunting were singing.
