Wymott Area summer visitors new arrivals
Good morning’s birding at Wymott. The highlight was a group of 10 Whimbrels Johnson House farm end of Stanning’s Folly. I think today is the earliest date I’ve recorded them at Wymott. Also new in singing Reed Warbler PAAS pond. Wymott brook by flood still singing Whitethroat. Little Egret here too....

Early morning singing Grasshopper Warbler close to railway crossing Ridley Lane(2nd day). Also singing Whitethroat by Wymott Brook.

First thing this morning Eyes Lane by the Red Bridge. On the flood 2 noisy Green Sandpipers and 5 Oystercatchers. Next I visited Croston:Mawdesley mosses. The river Douglas was quiet. Mawdesley and Croston Mosses near the River Douglas really good first thing this morning. Large mixed flock of mostly Buntings but also some Tree Sparrows too. Afternoon visit. Great Close field is a predictable place to find Golden plover in very cold weather. I normally only find them here in large numbers after a few days of hard frost. Still in rear garden of Bungalow no18 Stansted Rd feeding on berries in white Rowan tree(tree with bronze foliage). Easily viewable from road. Here constantly from 15.45 to 16.30 then flew off to roost in nearby trees.
