A day off on the golf course but with always an eye and ear out for wildlife. Ring necked Parakeet - 1-2 heard on a couple of occasions Oystercatcher 1 on the fairway (it knew it was safe there !) Visits to 3 reservoirs as a break from painting between coats. Anglezarke Low water at northern end but no waders. 10-15 gulls at edge of main water. Spent almost 2 hours on Mawdesley Moss this evening in the hope of the Gary’s Quail from Wednesday. I saw a nice big healthy looking adult on Friday evening on Holland House Way in Buckshaw Village. Shot into the grass for safety.

An evening walk up to Great Hill from the Brinscall end A couple of Curlew appeared to be staking territory. 4 Red Grouse, c30 Meadow Pipit, 4 Skylark and 1 Golden Plover heard. 45 minutes tonight spanning sunset.

Peregrine 1 on pylon
Lesser Whitethroat 1 singing
Whitethroat 1 singing
Sedge Warbler 2 singing
Pied Wagtail 2 on muck heaps with possible 2 Yellow Wagtail but flying away
Yellowhammer 2
Goosander 1f with 5 half grown young
LBB Gull c30 with 1 Herring.

Belmont Reservoir

Female Teal flew from north end of Belmont Reservoir to the small pool on opposite side of road about 8pm. Supporting what you said, Len, I saw a Cuckoo flying over the A674 by the canal tonight.

It was 750pm and was on a direct line from Whittle towards the Great Knowley quarry (or onwards to White Coppice).

Hillside Golf Course, Southport

Enjoyed a fabulous day at the British Masters in Southport today.

Best birdies were 1 Crossbill, 2 Siskin, several Whitethroat singing and 1 Kestrel. Plenty of Green and Goldfinches too.

Early evening stroll up to Heatherlea Woods. My 7th walk up and down the moorland path and still no sign for me if the seemingly mythical Tree Pipit !! Morning call in to see if any terns had dropped in but no joy.

Best of the rest were 4 Black tailed Godwit in summer plumage, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Oystercatcher, few Greylag Geese, 1 Reed Bunting and 30 hirundines (mainly Swallow and House Martin with a single Sand Martin).
