Re: White-letter Hairstreaks.

It has been a good year on the reserve for both White Letter Hairstreak and Purple Hairstreak (plus one sighting of a Green Hairstreak) which have been regularly seen until last week and in multiple numbers.

Hares

Hare sighting between Withnell and Abbey Village today. Thought I had a glimpse of one last week (from my house) on the lower fells but wasn't sure. This sighting makes me more certain. Hadnt seen any around the villages for a while so welcome sightings.

Re: White Coppice to Anglezarke & Heatherlea Woods

I know exactly where you mean Len. I have seen them before in Gait Barrows but it would be nice to see one on home territory. Will wait for a bit of sun and then go and look.

Withnell Cuckoo

Cuckoo heard from my patio calling from the fellside. Second day running. As I am the opposite end of the Goit from White Coppice it is possibly one more usually heard there :D

Re: Evening Visit

There are leverets around the compound together with adults regularly making an appearance in the same area even when there are loads of people about. The Whimbrel roost has been significantly down this year. Bill (Aspin) says they have all decamped to Barnacre meadows this year!

Re: Giant Hogweed

I reported a plant in B&Q car park in Chorley this week. It was cut down and injected within a few days. Any growing near footpaths and public areas should, by law, be removed as they are so toxic. You can report to Chorley BC on their website under 'weeds'!

Re: White Coppice. 10.30 - 15.00

evening visit, Cuckoo heard close by (Goit/Brinscall side of Black Dean Clough.)Glimpsed said lambs but didn't go close as didn't want my dogs getting any wrong ideas. Why cant dog owners be responsible around animals/wildlife, no wonder we have a bad name with farmers!

Re: White Coppice - Hatherlea Woods

The one I saw was on the Goit in the wood itself, adjacent to the fishing lodge at what was Drakeshead kennels . First time I have ever seen one here. Is this unusual ? or have I just been walking around with my eyes closed?
