Rivington Services

A wak around the footpaths of the area to the southern end of the Chorley boundary between the A6 and A673. 60 or so starling over. 10-12 house martins, 4 or 5 swallow, 3 blackcap. 3 or 4 reed bunting heard. Hedgehog seen foraging in the barn of Anderton Old Farm.

And the "After". The site is/was 10+acres, which was split approx 1/3 water, 1/3 scrub and 1/3 grasses, and now looks like this

10 acres of bullrushes, reed beds and several acres of water within completely filled with sand and levelled. Unsurprisingly no sign of the snipe, gropper, kestrel, moorhen, mallards. Toads

Countless tiny toads probably up to 3 figures (and a good few adults) crossing Big Lodge at 1010pm. No larger than a raisiin!

White Coppice 930 to 10pm

No groppers nor cuckoo but still several curlew and willow warblers on song. Kestrel on quarry dead tree and grey wag on goit.

Pikestones, Hurst Hill, Round Loaf, Shooting Huts, Jepsons. Approx 15 starling over, couple of swallows and house Martin, at least 15 pheasant, skylark and pipits calling and hovering throughout, 4 or 5 lapwing, 7 or 8 curlew, willow warbler goldcrest and chiffchaff heard at burnt woodland Rushy Bro...

Buckshaw Mossfield NR

20+ swallow and single swift. Single figures of willow warbler, blackcap and chiffchaff all singing. Reed bunting everywhere including juvs. Lapwing heard.

Good news on the swans (especially after their encounter a few weeks back) and the coot too. Here's my understanding of the Heapey Lodge numbering from my Wigan Angler days, who numbered 1 to 6 and 8, am I right?

20 minutes on the summit by the trig / nuclear bunker. Willow warbler (many), goldcrest, oystercatcher (2 over), swift (4 or 5), swallow (4), house martin (2), pheasant, lapwing, chiffchaff, and was it a stonechat or a redstart I flushed from the top of the oak sapling...

The woods around the electricity substation.

Yellowhammer, goldfinch, goldcrest, swallow, pheasant, blackcap, chiffchaff, f sparrowhawk. Ivy leaved speedwell, bugle, greater stitchwort, marsh marigold.

Dipper on Lostock by Cheeky Monkeys. Flock of LTT. Blackcap. Chiffchaff. 5 or 6 lapwing on the ploughed field by the landfill. Heron on pond. Oystercatcher over. Plenty of jackdaws heard, sorry I couldn't count them Neil.
