Re: Fly Agarics second flush
Hi Joyce, I am one of a group of 3 "Fungists" who regularly go searching in the Darwen/Blackburn/Chorley area. ( I think you may have met Harry and Mike the other two - in Chorley Cemetery last autumn) and we have found it to have been a very disappointing year for Fungi. Our local Fungi h...

Re: Hollinshead Hall
Hi Neil,
Green Woodpecker is another bird that has gone missing in the Roddlesworth area.
It is about 5 years or more since I last saw one locally.
Regards
Ian

Re: Hollinshead Hall
Hi Neil, Have been looking for Tree Pipit at Hollinshead/Slipper Lowe all Spring and it is looking like this will be the first time in many years that I will have failed to find any birds there. Along with Redstart and Pied Flycatcher it is looking like they have disappeared as a breeding species fr...

Re: hollinshead ruin
David is correct. It had become a renowned meeting spot for "gay business" and the only way to ensure it came to an end was to unfortunately seal off the car park. Another case of a few spoiling it for the many.

Fungi ID
Dave,
I think Bryan is def spot on with Mycena sp for *2 (possibly mycena galericulata) and I think *1 may be a mycena too - it has a look of mycena pura. I bet number *3 were not very big and not sure what to suggest for those at the stage they are at.

Fungi pic 3
Dave,
Looking at the pic again (and its relative size as Joyce pointed out) I think it is more likely to be Stinking Parasol (Lepiota cristata) - I know we have found this species at Mere Sands before.

UFO
Dave, Harry and I had a stroll round Tockholes today and found your UFO. It has the look of a young Honey Fungus but the yellow colouring on the stipe is putting us off. Took a couple of pics to help in the book consultation process over the weekend.(We have about 20 books on Fungi so hopefully one ...

UFO in Tockholes
Hi Dave
Harry and I are planning a stroll around Tockholes Wood tomorrow.
Can you remember roughly where you found your UFO (unidentified fungal object) ? We`ll try and relocate it and if we can find it, see if its developed into anything more obvious !!
Cheers Ian.
