Hummingbird Hawkmoth - Euxton

Just seen a hummingbird hawkmoth in our Euxton garden feeding from pink phlox. Stayed for about 10 mins and left at about 16.40. This is the second sighting this year (first sighting was 03 April).

Hummingbird Hawk Moth, Euxton - 03 Apr 2023

A Hummingbird Hawk Moth in my Euxton garden this afternoon feeding on the flowers of a Daphne Mezerian bush. It only stayed around for about 20 seconds, so no chance to get my camera.

A male siskin in our Euxton garden this afternoon feeding on sunflower hearts on a feeder. I've never seen a siskin in our garden in summer before!

M & f banded demoiselle damselflies and a m common blue butterfly alongside R Yarrow at Euxton (behind Tesco) this afternoon. Mayflies (not identified) also flying over the river.

A good spot! I used to hear and see cuckoos every year in the Pear Tree Lane/Euxton Lane/Empress Way area from when we moved into the area in 1977 until the early 1990's. My last record was of two cuckoos flying over the house and calling on 31 May 1993. Maybe we might hear them again!!

On a walk along Pear Tree Lane on pm Wednesday 22 April 2020 saw m & f orange tips, speckled woods, and a m brimstone. Also a tree sparrow in a boundary hedge.
A m brimstone was also seen by David Norton on Whinney Lane.
