Croston area, summer migrants

I am enjoying my daily exercise walks around home and have realised that I miss recording my sightings for my local patch. So I have dusted off the binoculars and started a new note book. I’ve also promised Neil that I will put some records on here to help out the society during the lock-down and ma...

Ladybirds

It’s a pleasant afternoon to be in the garden here in Croston and I have just estimated that there are currently over 1000 Ladybirds on my house wall which is in the afternoon sun - different sizes, colours and numbers of spots. Looking across the garden toward the nearby woodland the air if full of...

Not been out the past couple of days but have spotted a pair of Goosander in flight along the Yarrow heading downstream towards Croston. Also, the Grape Lane Tawny Owls have found their voices the last 2 nights. Interesting sightings from my garden include a Buzzard which is often perched on the wal...

Re: Around Croston today

Hi Neil, interesting how things can be different just an hour apart. I was there between 2.30 and 3.30 I guess. Today I saw the egrets initially in a ditch at the west end of the Twin Lakes but they flew out towards Croston Finney. Later they were flying some distance away over towards the E-shaped ...

Woodcock

Mid-afternoon walk into the village turned up the unusual sight of 3 Woodcock in flight over the horse paddocks between the river and Carver's Farm.
Probably disturbed by extensive brush cutting going on in the Old Hall grounds. Nothing else of note today.
