Lepidoptera - 1 Small Tortoiseshell butterfly in the garden today.

Out and about

Yesterday. Great Knowley -Mixed flock of 24 Long Tailed Tit, 4 Blue Tit & 2 Great Tit passed through the garden. Thanks John, the light was pretty poor at that time too. One thing I forgot to add was that I saw 2 Butterflies at Lead mine clough, at tree top height. They were the size of a Small Blue, but they never came close enough to identify. One was at the top path that leads to the bridge over the waterfa...

Unfortunately, none of the BTO survey tetrads are in our area.

It may be worth considering if we can set our own survey tetrads up and do a similiar survey in our area?

Belmont Reservoir

Birds seen/heard - 13 Teal in flight, 50+ Mallard, 1 Cormorant, 1 Common Sandpiper, 50+ Hirundines including around 30 House Martin, 1 probable Little Grebe (elusive, diving for long periods), 2 Wheatear, 4 Meadow Pipit, 1 Dunnock, 1 Robin, 1 Blackbird, 4 Long Tailed Tit, 2 Blue Tit.
