Great Knowley - Swifts

24+ Swifts have just flown over the former quarry from the White Coppice direction heading west towards Buckshaw. Either a foraging group or they have had enough of the wet weather and are off back to Africa!

Reservoir now full, so no shoreline for waders. I found some Wolf's Milk Slime Mould (Lycogala epidendrum) on a log upon which I have my bird's bath.

Great Knowley - Hobby

Seen flying over Blackburn road and onto the housing estate, I thought it was a large Swift until I got closer, seemed to be chasing a couple of Swallows and in turn being followed by a Jackdaw.

Hobby takes my species total to 128.

Birds seen/heard - 4 Common Buzzard over, Reed Bunting & Pheasant heard over former quarry. Bullfinch still feeding regularly in my garden. Chorley Cemetery

Birds seen/heard - Woodpigeon, Jackdaw, 2 Goldfinch, family group of 6 Coal Tit, Goldcrest heard, Blue Tit, Blackcap heard, Robin.

Pond - very overgrown and no Odonata seen, Common Frog.

Fungi - Fairy Inkcap.

Insects - 10+ White-tailed Bumblebee, 2 or 3 Red-tailed Bumblebee.
